JOB PURPOSE:
To act as technical project engineer/manager on all aspects of a project from design brief to production, delivery and installation (including management of installation subcontractors and snagging until job is complete). Create, communicate and maintain project plans. Identify and manage resource, timescales, and costs to ensure customer and company needs are managed and delivered. To work on any aspect of the project that requires it, within the competence of the job holder. Pro-actively work to improve processes and build positive relationships. Be commercially aware to protect company interests.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Manage parts of larger projects or complete smaller projects projects from conceptual & technical design, through to prototyping, presentation, client sign-off, production, delivery, installation and snagging (where required).
Attend client meetings as necessary, ensure design brief is clearly communicated/understood and commercial aspects of the project are documented and communicated by the sales team.
Ensure project timescales, key milestones and appropriate project plans are agreed, established communicated and managed.
Identify, communicate and manage critical path/timescales, and technical risksUnderstand manufacturing abilities of key suppliers. This may involve some travel to suppliers.
COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS
The Following Are Essential To This Post:-
Engineering background and understanding of manufacturing processes.Relevant project management skills and experience, ideally within quality, technical or production environment.
Comfortable working at both a detailed and overall project level. Enthusiasm, and the desire and ability to find better ways of achieving targets and motivating staff.
Excellent problem solving skills to support reasoned decision making. Clear evidence of ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
The Following Are Desirable To This Post:-
Understanding of the needs and requirements of the retail industry – including ability to understand and communicate client needs and desires (both to the company and to the client).
Commercial awareness, experience and the ability to manage client expectations in a practical way to build positive customer relationships and achieve an acceptable company gross margin.
Ability to ensure a design is ‘manufacturable’ at lowest cost –
o Technical knowledge of sheet metal, acrylic, injection moulding and woodworking manufacturing techniques and processes.
o Knowledge of technical drawings, manufacturing tolerances and the benefits of common components and ‘design features’.
Experience and clear understanding of product development, product trials and approval processes, and the ability to implement such systems.
Comfortable with computer technology – e.g. Microsoft Office and Project software.
